Montanha Mágica @ Covilhã 2026-Dec-10-11
We are delighted to announce Montanha Mágica Art and Landscape 2026*, an international call for proposals hosted by the University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, Portugal.
The fifth edition of Montanha Mágica* is dedicated to the theme The Mountain in Flames: the Time of Fire. Since 2018, Montanha Mágica* has developed as a field of encounter between art, landscape, research, action and thought. In 2026, within iA — Research Unit in the Arts*, it becomes a continuous laboratory for practice-based research, artistic creation and critical engagement with landscape.
This edition focuses on the burned mountain as event, trace, rupture and possibility. Fire is approached not merely as a subject to be represented, but as a critical condition through which landscape, ecology, memory, territory, community and forms of regeneration may be questioned.
Montanha Mágica* 2026 invites artists, researchers, architects, designers, filmmakers, curators, postgraduate students and other authors to submit proposals. The call welcomes artistic projects, artworks, exhibitions, residencies, papers, research-creation proposals, visual and filmic essays, cartographies, archives, editorial devices, installations, performances, drawing-based works, proposals arising from architecture and other forms of artistic or research practice.
Selected proposals will form part of the Montanha Mágica* 2026 programme, which may include a symposium, exhibitions, residencies, laboratories, interventions in the territory, public presentations, editorial projects and possible publications.
